Swimming Pool

At Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America, our programs are created to provide a safe, clean environment to explore and experience outdoor adventure, while building leadership and character that will guide our future leaders through the rest of their lives.  All Scouts live by the twelve points of the Scout Law. The 8th point of the Scout Law is to be CHEERFUL.  What brings more cheer, joy, and fun to a summer camp experience than time spent in the camp community swimming pool? Which leads us to the next phase of the history that is Camp Mitigwa.  Are you ready to play a part?

For 100 years Scouts have attended summer camp programs, weekend outings, or special events at Camp Mitigwa. Over that time, hundreds of thousands of Scouts and adults have entered Camp with the excitement of adventure and the unknown challenges summer camp can provide.  Each Scout and adult has their own fond memories of Camp that bring smiles to their faces, as they drift back into their childhoods.

As Mid-Iowa Council and the Boy Scouts of America continue to impact the lives of youth, adults and the community, facility modernization upgrades and replacements are necessary. The current Camp community swimming pool has been a highlight for all and Camp’s most popular amenity. The pool not only brings a cheerful and joyous pastime, as well as physical exercise to all who use it, it is where life-saving skills are learned, practiced and instilled.

As the Camp pool has aged, regular maintenance and repairs have become more frequent, disruptive, and expensive. Continued use and maintenance are no longer feasible in its current state, long-term. It has become apparent that Mitigwa Scout Reservation needs a new community swimming to provide safety education and recreation to each youth and adult visitor, so that they can continue a fun, physical and instructive experience while at Camp.

It is in the best interest of our summer camp facilities to build a new swimming pool area, equipped with a pool, pool deck, 12 changing rooms, utility room, storage, office, and onsite laundry.

A new swimming pool is predicted to increase the number of Scouting units that will consider attending Camp, and will lend itself to outside groups, organizations and corporations utilizing Camp - which will generate new revenue that can be used to provide even better programing.

To build a new swimming pool facility, Mid-Iowa Council intends to raise $4M over the next three years. We ask for your support.

The Mitigwa Scout Reservation community swimming pool has served the recreational and safety instruction needs of Scouting for many years.  With your help, as we celebrate 100 years of summer camp, we can build a state-of-the-art swimming pool facility for many decades of camping to come.

Individual Campsites

At Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America, our programs are created to provide a safe, clean environment to explore and experience outdoor adventure, while building leadership and character that will guide our future leaders through the rest of their lives.  Since 1923 the Mitigwa Scout Reservation, a 500-acre camp near Woodward, Iowa has been a place where Scouts have built those skillsets and made life-long memories and positive experiences that helped shape them into the leaders they are today. The campsites themselves are key components to the overall Camp experience. Which leads us to the next phase of the history that is Camp Mitigwa.  Are you ready to play a part?

For 100 years, Scouts have attended summer camp programs, weekend outings, or special events at Camp Mitigwa.

As the ways in which we communicate have changed over the years and technology has become a staple in and from those changes, it has become apparent that the campsites at Camp Mitigwa Scout Reservation are in need of amenity upgrades.

It has been determined it is in the best interest of our summer camp facilities to build/place new pavilions at each campsite, as well as outfit each site with electricity.

Adding new pavilions creates gathering spaces for each campsite where participants can strengthen relationships, participate in team-building activities, programming and games, and avoid certain weather restrictions.

The electrical access will allow site users the ability to charge phones and other necessary devices like cpap machines, etc. that are necessary to make the experience safe and more comfortable for all ages.

These improvements are predicted to increase the number of Scouting units that will consider attending Camp, and will lend themselves to outside groups, organizations and corporations utilizing Camp year-round - which will generate new revenue that can be used to provide even better programing.  These improvements will also make it possible to truly serve the entire family, from young to old, as well as the central Iowa business community, creating a more enjoyable experience.

To make these modest modernization upgrades, Mid-Iowa Council intends to raise $120,000 over the next three years. We ask for your support.

The Mitigwa Scout Reservation campsites have served the basic needs of Scouting for many years.  With your help, as we celebrate 100 years of summer camp, we can create comfortable and appropriate campsite that will best suit campers for the next century of Camping.

Shower House

At Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America, our programs are created to provide a safe, clean environment to explore and experience outdoor adventure, while building leadership and character that will guide our future leaders through the rest of their lives.  All Scouts live by the twelve points of the Scout Law. The 11th point of the Scout Law is to be CLEAN.  Hygiene and self-presentation are key components to this point. Which leads us to the next phase of the history that is Camp Mitigwa.  Are you ready to play a part?

For 100 years, Scouts have attended summer camp programs, weekend outings, or special events at  Mitigwa Scout Reservation. Over that time, hundreds of thousands of Scouts and adults have entered Camp with the excitement of adventure and the unknown challenges summer camp can provide.  Each Scout and adult has their own fond memories of camp that bring smiles to their faces, as they drift back into their childhoods.

As Mid-Iowa Council and the Boy Scouts of America continue to evolve, grow and encourage changes to allow the entire family opportunities to create memories at Camp, it has become well-known that Mitigwa Scout Reservation needs modern shower and bathroom facilities to provide privacy and safety to each youth and adult visitor, so that they can be CLEAN Scouts, even while they are at Camp.

We have determined it is in the best interest of our summer camp facilities to build two brand new shower house structures.  Each shower house will come with 10 spacious and separate bathrooms, each accommodated with a shower, a flushing toilet, and a sink. The room is big enough to be a “family size” bathroom for those with little children.  Five of the rooms will be ADA compliant with wider doors and larger floorplans to accommodate wheelchairs.  Individual shower and changing spaces add to the independence and confidence of each individual camper – helping to create a comfortable yet authentic, positive overall experience at Camp.

These improvements are predicted to increase the number of Scouting units that will consider attending Camp, and will lend themselves to outside groups, organizations and corporations utilizing camp year-round - which will generate new revenue that can be used to provide even better programing.  These improvements will also make it possible to truly serve the entire family, from young to elderly, as well as the central Iowa business community, creating a more enjoyable experience.

Following the significant success of our most recent membership campaign, we are finding it necessary to prepare for growth in the next few years and provide the very best Scouting experience we can for all Scouts.

To build these shower house facilities from the ground up, Mid-Iowa Council intends to raise $350,000 over the next three years. We ask for your support.
