Mid-Iowa Council
Mitigwa Legacy Campaign

For over 100 years Scouting has played key role in the development of the young people of central and southern Iowa. Whether it has been an Eagle Project, a community service project by the local Cub Scout Pack in Pella, or camping at Ledges State Park, Scouting’s impact on the fabric of our communities is timeless and priceless.

Mitigwa At 100

Central to our Scouting experience has been Mitigwa Scout Reservation. Hundreds of thousands of our young people have had life changing experiences on the “Hills Above the River.” As we celebrate our 100th Anniversary of the first Scout Camp at Mitigwa, we should all be proud of the impact of Scouting in the lives of Iowa’s young people. Throughout the years, Scouting at Mitigwa has remained a constant - through World Wars, Great Depressions, Global Pandemics, and countless other world events.

The Derecho of August 2020 provided the most recent challenge in delivering a summer camp experience. As always, our Scouts and Scout Leaders, with the help of our communities, bonded together to not only rebuild our beloved camp but make needed improvements to ensure our Scout’s safety.

As we enter the Second Century of camping at Mitigwa Scout Reservation, further improvements are vital. Whether those be traditional bricks and mortar, or the financial resources to see our camps through societal events, it is our responsibility to ensure that in 100 years Mitigwa will be celebrating its Bi-Centennial. Just like those community leaders 100 years ago who left a lasting legacy for countless young people, we now look to leave our own legacy. We encourage you to consider your legacy by making a gift to the Mitigwa Legacy Campaign to secure the next 100 years of Scouting on the “Hills above the River.”
